We originally figured our lead in QMC would be fairly safe at around 15-16 million because Planet 3DNow was going to be involved in a Spinhenge race with Electronic Sports League. However, Spinhenge started having some issues and their race will probably not happen until sometime in January. After snooping around on P3D and ESL fora and checking the downloaded WUs for their teams, it now appears that P3D is setting up another big bunker dump. For those of you who may not know, they did this a little over a week ago and managed to dump over 5,000,000 credits worth of WUs. In order to try to offset their dump some of us have put machines back on QMC. We do not think they can dump enough to really threaten our lead, we just do not want them to catch up to the point where they might be a threat. If you are not going to be involved in the upcoming WCG races, or if you just happen to have a machine that can lend some help, please consider QMC. |

BOINC 1 Billion Update: Since last months newsletter we have knocked almost 2 months off of our time to reach the 1 billion mark. We are now just over 4 months away and really stand a good chance of making it by our 3rd anniversary. My prediction last month was on or before April 15, 2008. At our current rate the date will be April 23, 2008. Our BOINC numbers are still climbing and our membership numbers are still growing. Our current BOINC RAC stands at 2,263,324. This is more than 600K ahead of our closest competitor by RAC, Team 2CH, and more than 800K ahead of L'Alliance Francophone who is in third for RAC. Keep on crunching and keep on recruiting and no one will ever be able to catch us!! |
UPDATE: We have finally passed P3DN in Rectilinear Crossing Number and now hold the #1 spot. Our current goal on this project is to build a comfortable lead so that it will be easier to defend should any other team try to take it from us. At the time of this article we are just over 370K ahead of P3DN, and we are adding 35 - 50K a day. This team never ceases to amaze me with it's ability to set a goal and then make it happen! Crunch on everyone and let's show the world what we are made of! |

SETI.USA encourages its members to participate in the projects of their choice. Now that we have accomplished the team's original goal of being #1 in SETI@home, credit in ALL BOINC projects is valuable to the team's future success. Some members have asked for direction as to which projects they should allocate their resources. Therefore we have decided to designate a "Team Project of the Month". The chosen project typically will be one in which our team currently has a poor showing in that projects standings. World Community Grid has been chosen for the Team Project of the Month for December. Our team is currently ranked 97th in BOINC standings on the project and we are hoping enough members will participate in this project to improve our position there by January 15th. NOTE: When you reach the page to select your operating system DO NOT select United Devices for Windows ® (Vista, XP, Me, 2000, 98) as your credits will not count toward our team BOINC totals. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE BOINC INSTALLED - Connect to WCG through BOINC manager. To join the team, use the "Join Our Team" link above. |
SETI.USA Takes Back #1As you may remember, we let France take #1 in Riesel Sieve as part of our strategy in taking #1 in QMC. Our plan was to stay as close as possible and retake RS when our lead in QMC was comfortable. We decided to surprise the French and take it back as quickly as possible by having several team members bunker crunch for a few days, dump all at once and then have a PMF strike. Our plan worked perfectly and we are once again #1 in RS. We have some screen captures showing the surges when the bunkers were emptied. |

I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances. - Martha Washington- |

SETI.USA recently began a project that we now call the SETI.USA Cluster. The concept is to maximize the use of all hardware within the team. Computers will be built either by the donations of Hardware or Monetary donations from fellow team members of SETI.USA that will be exclusively used to participate in BOINC projects. These computers will be hosted by volunteers that are fellow team members of SETI.USA. These Computers will contribute to a single user account of the BOINC Project that it runs ...otherwise known as the team account (SETI.USA Cluster). The hardware donations can be pieces of hardware that indivuals no longer have a use for and would like to see them get further use. |
Member of the Month Interview -Beerdrinker It´s getting close to christmas time again. Time to start shopping, and prepare for the big feast with friends and family. In between the shopping and eating, we still have some crunching to do to obtain the goals and dreams of this team. One way to achieve this, is to keep adding more power and stay on top of things. This months interview is with a person who really has added some power to the team, setting the bar high for everyone else. Please welcome.... |
