During the month of December some of our team members participated in six team challenges on the World Community Grid project. |
New Year's Crunch-a-thon -SargeD The team held a weekend Crunch-a-thon in Cosmology@Home from December 29th at 0000 UTC for 96 hours ending on January 2nd 0000 UTC to celebrate the coming of the New Year. We put 350,400 cobblestones on the board in 96 hours with 33 members participating. We moved up the charts 7 places into the 15th slot and made it all the way up to 3rd in RAC. At the end of the Crunch-a-thon we had tens of thousands of completed WUs that were in “pending” status so our total credits continued to rise for several days. Apparently some of our members decided they liked this project and have continued to crunch it. At the time of this article we are still 3rd in RAC and have moved up to # 10 on the charts.Congratulations to all our members who participated in the New Year Weekend Crunch-a-thon!

BOINC 1 Billion Update: We have slipped a little bit since last month. Last month's numbers showed us reaching the billion mark on April 23rd. The numbers this month show the date to be April 28th, a difference of 5 days. If we keep our eye on the ball and continue to crunch as many high credit projects as we can, I still think we can make it by our anniversary in March. Our current BOINC RAC stands at 2,206,812 down 56,512 from where it was this time last month. We need to also keep a watchful eye on SETI.Germany who currently has a BOINC RAC a little over 14K higher than ours. They have a lot of ground to cover to catch us and I think we can hit the billion well before they do. So "Keep on crunching"!! |

SETI.USA encourages its members to participate in the project of their choice. Now that we have accomplished the team’s original goal of being #1 in SETI@home credit in ALL BOINC projects is valuable to the team’s future success. Some members have asked for direction as to which projects they should allocate their resources to. Therefore we have decided to designate a “Team Project of the Month”. The chosen project typically will be one in which our team currently has a poor showing in that projects standings. yoyo@home has been chosen for the Team Project of the Month for January. Our team is currently ranked 14th in BOINC standings on the project and we are hoping enough members will participate in this project to improve our position there by February 15th. This month's Computer of the Month belongs to Boston. When he first put this together, it was being used as an entertainment center. It has suffered from a mobo failure and a cpu failure (two different occasions). This has been his primary cruncher since 2003. STATS: If you have a PC that you would like to see featured in our newsletter? Then visit here and tell us about your cruncher!! |
Soon silence will have passed into legend. Man has turned his back on silence. Day after day he invents machines and devices that increase noise and distract humanity from the essence of life, contemplation, meditation. -Jean Arp- |

SETI.USA would like to thank ALL of it's dedicated members and offer CONGRATULATIONS to all those who achieved significant personal milestones in December/January. As you all know, we are growing exponentially. We now have: |
For the month of December we racked up an awesome 38 Users of The Day. Steve Martin @ SETI.USA led the way with 7 for the month. Our best project was TSP with a total of 4. As of the time of this article we are only 2 away from taking number 8 from Rechenkraft.net. |

Team SETI.USA has broken new ground by starting to crunch a non-BOINC project as a team. Some of our members have started crunching DIMES in an effort to improve our standings at the DC Vault statistics site. DIMES is a distributed scientific research project, aimed at studying the structure and topology of the Internet. It is non-cpu intensive and uses very little resources so it can be run alongside BOINC. We currently have 14 members involved and have already moved up to the #67 spot in their charts. If you are interested in being involved the link is http://www.netdimes.org/.

Do you have or would you like to write an article for our newsletter? We are always looking for new material of interest to our members. If you have something you would like to submit, go here and post it. |

We are still in need of host volunteers and equipment/money donations. If you have any spare parts laying around, especially motherboards and CPUs, that you do not need please post them here. If you want to add your name to the host volunteer list post here. |
Member of the Month Interview -Beerdrinker With the newyear celebration well behind us, it´s time to look forward yet again. In a few months we will celebrate our 2nd year anniversary, hopefully with a lot of new members under our wings. And of course with a lot of credits earned. Now and in the upcoming months, we will continue to set the focus on a team member - so we all get to know each other a bit more. So please welcome....... |
