1. Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do for fun? For a living?

Hi all! I'm 39 1/2 (I think, quit counting at 25). In Columbus OH I have fun people watching and picking on my coworkers :) if I'm not reading Sci Fi/Fantasy. I play too much City of Heroes and enjoy just walking around the neighborhood. They only give me money when I show up at work at a major telcom company and dispatch techs to the central offices of the Midwest and Conn, fortunately its easy work and I can usually read the forums (great ideas and tips out there guys keep them coming) for 1/2 the shift if there are no storms.

2. When did you first join SETI@Home and why?

I joined SETI@home in about 1998 when I read a internet article about it. Unfortunately I messed up my account around 2001 and had to create a new one. I like the idea of looking for ET and now I help on various medical projects as well.

3. Where did you first hear about SETI.USA? When did you join? And what caused you to stay?

I saw SETI.USA on the top teams log on Boincstats, viewed the mission statement and browsed the forums and realized how much I had been missing with my old non commutative team. Joined up and have had a blast with the people on the boards and when was on 1st or 3rd shift I liked the Monday night chats. I kinda go through streaks of involvement and my posting but I usually at least browse the forum every week or so even when I don't post :)

4. How many machines do you have running BOINC?

I got the bug pretty bad. I have 8 machines running 24/7. 2 Quads, 5 Dual Cors and 1 older single core. They are 6 desktops in the basement (hot down here!) and 2 laptops upstairs.

5. Tell us about your fastest cruncher?

I was looking around for a Quad for the longest time but really did not want to spend $1500 for just 1. Finally saw Best Buy have a sell on 2 lower end Acer Quads for $600 so I got 2 :). They are Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 2gig of ram and unfortunately Vista. Aspire M5630

6. If you could build your "dream" cruncher, what would it be like?

Man, if I had the know how I would probably build one (or 2,3,4) of those 8 CPU machines I have seen out there. Pop Quads in all slots, at least 8 gig of ram and the latest video and sound cards I could afford.

7. Any advice for the other members of the team?

If your going to build a farm make sure your electric box has empty spots for more circuits. I have 3 old machines I just don't have the power to run anymore. I'd love to add 4 more machines but don't have the power or cooling to run them on the circuits available.

8. On Top or On Bottom
(question forwarded by Cappy)

Top, I love being on the top of the stats boards with SETI.USA

9. Which question would you like the next participant to answer?

Have you ever bought anything from a TV Ad? What?

On behalf of the SETI.USA newsletter staff, I would like to say thank you to Zedd2000 for participating in this interview. Follow us, as we next month present a new member right here at SETI.USA.
