CONTENTS: * BOINC Stats Scaling
|
Recently we became aware of a move by Dr. David Anderson (BOINC Project scientist) to force the stats sites to scale down credits reported by certain projects. This was due to the claim by some that projects such as Riesel Sieve and Yoyo were giving as high as 4.5 times the credit per CPU second that SETI@Home was giving. Dr. Anderson had no interest in scaling up those projects that gave less credit, only in scaling down those that gave more. Several of our team members became involved in the discussions and by providing facts and information that contradicted the claims of high credits, managed to put a stop to the movement, at least for the time being. We must remain on guard for such movements in the future as the feeling is that we have not heard the last of it. |
BOINC 1 Billion Update: We are now just over a month away from our goal of reaching 1 billion BOINC credits. We currently need 82,407,234 credits to reach this awesome milestone. Based on our current RAC we should be there in about 32 days from the time of this article or April 17, 2008. Keep on crunching and recruiting new members and we will remain at the top!!

SETI.USA encourages its members to participate in the project of their choice. Now that we have accomplished the team's original goal of being #1 in SETI@home credit in ALL BOINC projects is valuable to the team's future success. |

Other Projects of interest -SargeD SETI.USA encourages it's members to crunch whatever project most interests them. However, there are a few projects that we run that do not interfere with our primary projects, yet help us to increase our overall numbers in BOINC. Two of these projects are Pirates@Home and Depspid. Depspid is a non-cpu intensive project that uses some of your bandwidth. Pirates@Home uses the CPU but the WUs are so short (usually less than a minute) that they never interfere with production on other projects. Work for these projects is very sporadic, so we encourage our members to connect and stay connected so that when work is released we can grab our share. Please consider connecting to these projects if you have not already. |

SETI.USA would like to thank ALL of it's dedicated members and offer CONGRATULATIONS to all those who achieved significant personal milestones in the month of February/March. As you all know, we are growing exponentially. We now have: 141 members with 1,000,000+ COMBINED credits |
The month of February we gained an additional 45 UoTDs! We are now solidly locked in the #8 position. We are currently 57 ahead of Rechenkraft and 84 behind #9 BOINC@Heidelberg. Keep up the good work and remember to update those project profiles occassionally! |

We have been crunching DIMES for about 2 months now and are already in 24th place. We now have 8 members with over 1 million credits each and Crazybob is fast approaching 4 million! Congrats to Crazybob! You can view the current individual standings at this link. DIMES uses little to no CPU (it uses bandwidth) and can be run alongside other projects without interfering with them. If you are interested in being involved the link is http://www.netdimes.org/. |
Do you have or would you like to write an article for our newsletter? We are always looking for new material of interest to our members. If you have something you would like to submit, go here and post it. |
