BOINC Stats Scaling -SargeD

Recently we became aware of a move by Dr. David Anderson (BOINC Project scientist) to force the stats sites to scale down credits reported by certain projects. This was due to the claim by some that projects such as Riesel Sieve and Yoyo were giving as high as 4.5 times the credit per CPU second that SETI@Home was giving. Dr. Anderson had no interest in scaling up those projects that gave less credit, only in scaling down those that gave more. Several of our team members became involved in the discussions and by providing facts and information that contradicted the claims of high credits, managed to put a stop to the movement, at least for the time being. We must remain on guard for such movements in the future as the feeling is that we have not heard the last of it.

BOINC 1 Billion Update:

We are now just over a month away from our goal of reaching 1 billion BOINC credits. We currently need 82,407,234 credits to reach this awesome milestone. Based on our current RAC we should be there in about 32 days from the time of this article or April 17, 2008. Keep on crunching and recruiting new members and we will remain at the top!!

Project of the Month: -DrBob

SETI.USA encourages its members to participate in the project of their choice. Now that we have accomplished the team's original goal of being #1 in SETI@home credit in ALL BOINC projects is valuable to the team's future success.

Some members have asked for direction as to which projects they should allocate their resources to. Therefore we have decided to designate a “Team Project of the Month”. The chosen project typically will be one in which our team currently has a poor showing in that projects standings.

POEM@HOME has been chosen for the Team Project of the Month for March.

Our team is currently ranked 20th in BOINC standings on the project and we are hoping enough members will participate to advance our team into the "top 10" by April 15th.

Boinc Standings -DrBob

OS Support & Team Standings Chart -Steve @ SETI.USA

This chart now indicates which projects have native 64-bit apps for 64-bit OSes!

It shows all active BOINC projects. It includes the OS platforms supported by each project, along with our team's current progress standing and the project's URL address.

As you can see, I completely overhauled this chart, and it now shows much more valuable information than just simply which OS's are supported by each project.

Projects with Team Status coded RED need assistance, as our RAC standing is currently lower than our TOTAL CREDIT (TC) standing.

Projects with Team Status coded GREEN are in good shape right now, as our RAC standing is higher than our TC standing - so, we are climbing (or we are currently #1 for both RAC and TC!)

Projects with Team Status left BLACK are either waiting to produce more work (on hold) or our RAC and TC standings are the same - ie. #3 for RAC and #3 for TC.

I hope you all find this chart as helpful as I designed it to be. The intent is to give everyone a clear overall picture, and provide the data we need to properly allocate our crunchers among the various projects as we seek world peace through global BOINC domination.

Other Projects of interest -SargeD

SETI.USA encourages it's members to crunch whatever project most interests them. However, there are a few projects that we run that do not interfere with our primary projects, yet help us to increase our overall numbers in BOINC. Two of these projects are Pirates@Home and Depspid. Depspid is a non-cpu intensive project that uses some of your bandwidth. Pirates@Home uses the CPU but the WUs are so short (usually less than a minute) that they never interfere with production on other projects. Work for these projects is very sporadic, so we encourage our members to connect and stay connected so that when work is released we can grab our share. Please consider connecting to these projects if you have not already.

February UoTDs -SargeD

The month of February we gained an additional 45 UoTDs! We are now solidly locked in the #8 position. We are currently 57 ahead of Rechenkraft and 84 behind #9 BOINC@Heidelberg. Keep up the good work and remember to update those project profiles occassionally!

DIMES Update -SargeD

We have been crunching DIMES for about 2 months now and are already in 24th place. We now have 8 members with over 1 million credits each and Crazybob is fast approaching 4 million! Congrats to Crazybob! You can view the current individual standings at this link. DIMES uses little to no CPU (it uses bandwidth) and can be run alongside other projects without interfering with them. If you are interested in being involved the link is http://www.netdimes.org/.
