Hard drive prices drop as PC demand rises By Agam Shah, IDG News Service Competition from flash memory and increased shipment of PCs and consumer electronics are driving down prices and fueling demand for hard disk drives, according to a survey released by iSuppli Wednesday. |

SETI.USA Fast Approaching 1 Billion : Based on our current production we should reach the magic 1 billion in BOINC overall in about 6 months time. However, knowing this team the way I do and having seen the amazing things we have accomplished in the past, I think it will probably be much sooner than that. As a matter of fact, I am going to stick my neck out and predict that we will be there on or before April 15, 2008. Our BOINC numbers are really looking great. Our RAC is consistently hoovering around the 2,000,000 mark (currently 1,997,392). This is more than 500K ahead of our closest competitor, Team 2CH, and almost 700K ahead of L'Alliance Francophone who is in third for RAC. Keep on crunching and keep on recruiting and no one will ever be able to catch us!!

Rectilinear Crossing Number is another project of interest to our team. We have been gradually creeping up on Planet 3DNow in this project for a couple of months now. We are currently less than a million behind them. With most of their attention and crunchers on QMC we are managing to outproduce them by about 30-40 K a day without a lot of effort. Anyone wishing to add crunchers to this project are reminded that the best credits can be obtained by using BOINC 5.5.0. |

SETI.USA encourages its members to participate in the project of their choice. Now that we have accomplished the team's original goal of being #1 in SETI@home, credit in ALL BOINC projects is valuable to the team's future success. Due to our current involvement in QMC, RCN and RS, we are not naming a project of the month for November. Team members who may be looking for a project should select one of these three. You are encouraged to put faster machines (especially C2D and Quad) on QMC to help in the effort to build our lead there. Slower machines would be useful on RCN especially if you use BOINC 5.5.0. Some help would also be appreciated on RS as we are trying to take back our #1 from L'Alliance Francophone on that project. Otherwise, crunch whatever you like best. A new project of the month will be named in a later issue. Thank ALL of you for everything you give to this team!! |
SETI.USA Takes #1It was a long hard battle, but we have succeeded in capturing the #1 spot at Quantum Monte Carlo. Planet 3DNow put up quite a fight and managed to really expand their member base in QMC. But they were no match for the determination of team SETI.USA. We are currently in the process of building a comfortable lead in the project to make it easier for us to hold onto. If you have any machines that you would like to add to the fray, please feel free to do so. |

New Members for October : -SargeD SETI.USA would like to thank ALL of it's dedicated members and offer CONGRATULATIONS to all those who achieved significant personal milestones in the month of October. As you all know, we are still growing exponentially. Many new members have joined during the QMC push and we hope to see many more new members in the coming months. Regardless of whether we recruit them or they find us on their own, all of our new members are most welcome to the team. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize all of our new arrivals for October and all of the existing members who have spread out to other BOINC projects. In the month of October we added 289 new members or existing members to new projects. |
October was a slow month for User of the Day awards with the team only getting 14. Tank_Master lead the way with 3 total. We still have a solid lock on 9th place, but still need 25 to catch up with number 8. |
